The Solar System is a 60-minute workshop for grades 1, 3, 4 and 6. Seated around a Sun 2 metres across, students take a trip to scale through the solar system, explain the Big Bang theory and name the planets in order, comparing their size and distance from the Sun.
Is Earth the only planet we could live on?
To tackle this fascinating question, your astronomers, seated around our big 2-metre Sun, take a grand trip through the solar system, to scale: where it came from, how big its planets are and how far they are from the Sun.
Let your little rays of sunshine dazzle you with what they learn!
Learning goals (elementary)
- Explain the Big Bang theory of the origin of the Universe.
- Name the planets of the solar system in order.
- Describe the features of the main planets (composition, size, temperature, distance).
- Tell space terms apart (planet, satellite, star, galaxy, celestial body and more).
- Describe how planets rotate and revolve around the Sun.
