How it works in class
A real experiment, not a demonstration to watch
Every Profaqua workshop is built so that the whole class takes part. At the start, one student is chosen as the facilitator’s science assistant and proudly wears the Profaqua lab coat for the rest of the session.
Before each experiment, students share what they already know and make a hypothesis together. Depending on the topic, the workshop then unfolds as team challenges, rotating stations or small-group work, so that everyone handles the equipment, tests an idea and sees what happens.
Along the way, students practise the skills at the heart of the BC science curriculum: questioning and predicting, observing, interpreting results and communicating their thinking, in French.

Built to fit into your unit
A workshop works best when it connects to what your students are doing. Use it as a hook to launch a new topic, as a hands-on moment in the middle of a unit, or as a way to consolidate learning before you move on.
When you request a quote, tell us your grade levels and what your class has already covered. Our facilitators adjust the depth of the explanations, the vocabulary and the challenges to your group. After the workshop, you receive activity sheets to keep the learning going.
Planning for a whole school? Workshops can be scheduled back to back for several classes on the same day. Setting them up in one room is strongly recommended when there is little time between groups.

Extra fees, GST and PST
- Travel: $0.90 per kilometre, round trip, between our office and your location, with a $25 minimum per trip.
- Remote regions: preferential travel rates may apply. Ask us for details.
- Perishable supplies: a few workshops carry a supplies fee, stated in the workshop description.
- Waiting time: a $60 fee applies when more than 90 minutes separate two workshops.
- Taxes: GST and PST are added to the amounts shown.

How many students can take part in a workshop?
Workshops are designed for one class at a time. Many are organized around six teams that share tasks, so we ask teachers to form teams before the facilitator arrives.
What do we need to provide?
It depends on the workshop. Some need a sink nearby, others access to outlets or an interactive whiteboard. We confirm everything when you book.
Are there extra fees?
Travel is billed at $0.90 per kilometre round trip from our office, with a $25 minimum. A few workshops that use perishable supplies carry a small materials fee. A $60 fee applies when more than 90 minutes separate two workshops. GST and PST are extra.
Can you run workshops for several classes on the same day?
Yes, and it is the most common format. Rates are based on a minimum of two classes per day. With 60-minute workshops, more than five groups are usually spread over more than one day.
