French Immersion
French Immersion science workshops and activities for BC schools
In an immersion classroom, science gives students something real to talk about. Our facilitators run hands-on activities entirely in French, pitched to your students’ level, so they predict, test and explain in the language they are learning.
Language through science
French with a purpose
French Immersion students often understand far more than they say. A science activity changes that. When a balloon inflates on its own or a liquid changes colour, students want to explain what they saw, and they reach for their French to do it.
Our facilitators work entirely in French and adjust the pace to the class in front of them. Key words are introduced through objects students can touch, demonstrations are visual, and every student has a role in the experiment. The science stays rigorous; the language support is built in.
Every activity is designed in connection with the BC curriculum, so the visit supports what you are already teaching in science while giving students an authentic French-language experience.
- 100% in French, at your students’ level
- Visual, hands-on vocabulary support
- Connected to BC science learning standards

Funding
Canadian Parents for French can cover much of the cost
Through its Culture in the Classroom program, Canadian Parents for French BC & Yukon can contribute up to $1,000 per visit for eligible public schools offering French Immersion, plus up to $200 per visit toward travel for schools in remote areas.
French Immersion schools can receive two visits over a two-year period. The school applies itself; once your activity is planned, we put you in touch with CPF BC & Yukon, which confirms eligibility and the amount of its contribution. Your PAC can often help cover any difference.

Is the activity too hard for my immersion students?
No. Our facilitators adapt the pace and vocabulary to the class and rely on visual demonstrations and hands-on manipulation. Tell us your grade and how comfortable your students are in French when you book.
Can we use Canadian Parents for French funding?
Yes, if your school is an eligible public school offering French Immersion. CPF BC & Yukon can contribute up to $1,000 per visit, plus up to $200 for travel in remote areas. The school makes the request; we help you get started.
Do you offer activities for French Immersion secondary classes?
Yes. The catalogue includes workshops and projects up to grade 12, such as electromagnetism, electronics, kinetic energy and LEGO® robotics.
What does a French Immersion workshop cost?
Classroom workshops start at $205 per class, with a minimum of two classes per day. Travel fees, GST and PST are extra. Funding from CPF or your PAC can reduce what the school pays.
Which formats can we book for an immersion class?
A classroom workshop of 60, 75 or 90 minutes (from $205, $256 or $307 per class), a project over at least 2 visits (from $400 per class) or a science show for several classes (from $1,000), with a minimum of two classes per day for workshops and projects.
