Canadian Parents for French: up to $1,200 per visit

The Culture in the Classroom program, run by Canadian Parents for French BC & Yukon (CPF BC & YK), helps eligible public schools offer educational activities entirely in French. Many schools use it to welcome Profaqua for a science workshop, a project or a show.

Who can benefit?

Culture in the Classroom is for public schools offering a French Immersion or Core French program. Activities must be delivered entirely in French, which is exactly how every Profaqua activity is run.

Each eligible school can receive up to $1,000 per visit, whatever the grade or program. An additional contribution of up to $200 per visit can help with travel costs, especially for schools in remote areas; the amount depends on the school’s location and CPF BC & YK’s terms. When both are approved, a school could receive up to $1,200 per visit.

French Immersion schools can receive two visits over a two-year period, and may use both in the same school year or spread them over two years. Core French schools can receive one visit over two years.

Francophone schools of the Conseil scolaire francophone (CSF) are not eligible, nor are private schools. Francophone schools can turn to PassepART, Vice-Versa or their APÉ instead.

Step by step

Using CPF funding with Profaqua

  1. Contact Profaqua

Choose the science activity, the date and the details of your visit with us.

  2. We connect you with CPF

Once your project is set, Profaqua puts the school directly in touch with CPF BC & YK.

  3. CPF confirms eligibility

CPF contacts the school and sends what it needs to complete its funding request.

  4. Finalize the activity

Once funding is approved, the school and Profaqua coordinate the details.

  5. CPF confirms its contribution

Profaqua sends CPF the planned cost; CPF confirms the maximum amount of its contribution.

Dates that work

Separate invoices

One invoice for CPF and one for the school when the activity costs more than CPF’s contribution.

Important details

  • The funding request is made by the school. Service providers cannot apply on the school’s behalf.
  • Funding is for activities delivered entirely in French.
  • CPF generally pays no deposit before the activity, and pays the eligible invoice within up to 30 days after the activity.
  • CPF funding can be combined with other sources. If the activity costs more than $1,000, the school can cover the difference or use another source, such as its PAC.
  • In that case, Profaqua can issue separate invoices to CPF and to the school.
  • Up to $200 more per visit may be granted for travel, depending on the school’s location and CPF’s criteria.

Planning a visit with CPF funding

A classroom workshop starts at $205 per class, based on a minimum of two classes per day. For example, four 60-minute workshops on the same day cost $820 before travel and taxes, so CPF’s contribution can cover most of the visit. A science show starts at $800 and brings several classes together for an hour. See all our prices.

Start early. Write to us as soon as you know which classes want an activity: we suggest topics that fit your unit and your students’ level of French, we hold a date, and we connect you with CPF BC & YK. Schools outside Greater Vancouver save on travel by booking during one of our science tours.

Does CPF pay Profaqua directly?

CPF pays the eligible invoice within up to 30 days after the activity. When the school covers part of the cost, Profaqua can invoice CPF and the school separately.

Can we book two visits in the same year?

French Immersion schools can receive two visits over a two-year period, and may use both in the same school year or spread them over two years. Core French schools can receive one visit over two years.

Can Profaqua apply for us?

No. The request must come from the school. We prepare the quote and the description of the activity, and we put you in touch with CPF BC & YK.

Is a francophone (CSF) school eligible?

No. CPF’s program is for public schools with French Immersion or Core French. CSF schools can look at PassepART, Vice-Versa or their APÉ.

Which activity should we choose?

For Core French, highly visual topics such as dry ice, chemical reactions or the egg drop parachute work best. For French Immersion, a multi-visit project or robotics lets students plan and explain in French. Tell us your unit and we will suggest the right fit.
