Your PAC: funding a science show, a club or a family night
The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) brings together the parents, guardians and caregivers of students in a BC public school. With its own budget or its Community Gaming Grant, it can bring science to the whole school: a show in the gym, an after-school club or a family evening.
Community Gaming Grants for PACs
- Amount
- $20 per student
$2,000 base for schools under 100 students - Applications
- One per year, April 1 to June 30
- Results
- By September 30
- Purpose
- Extracurricular opportunities for all students
Why work with your PAC?
PACs are recognized under BC’s School Act and can advise the school administration on matters related to public education. Depending on its priorities and financial resources, a PAC can support student activities financially, help plan and organize a project, mobilize parents and the school community, and work with the school and an outside provider such as Profaqua.
PACs are not required to fundraise, but many choose to in order to support initiatives in their school. A PAC can also cover the part of an activity that another program does not pay, for example the difference between a visit’s cost and Canadian Parents for French funding.
- Financial support for student activities
- Help planning and organizing a project
- Mobilizing parents and the school community
- Working with the school and Profaqua
Gaming Grant
What a PAC Gaming Grant can pay for
The grant is meant for extracurricular opportunities that benefit all students. The 2026 guidelines name presentations and performances, including science, among the eligible uses. Curriculum-based activities are not eligible.
A science show for the whole school
An hour of experiments in the gym, with students on stage. One show reaches several hundred students. Our science shows.
A family science night
A school spirit and family engagement event: a show, then stations where parents and children experiment together.
An after-school club
6 to 12 weeks of science or robotics in French, outside class time. Our after-school programs.
Classroom workshops and projects are part of the curriculum, so they are not an eligible use of Gaming Grant funds. Your PAC can still support them with the money it raises itself, according to its own rules, or the school can use CPF funding.
For school events
Shows and activities PACs often choose
Four science shows for every season, and hands-on activities that work at a family night or in an after-school club.

A calendar that works
Gaming Grant applications are accepted from April 1 to June 30 each year, and PACs are told the result by September 30. The amount is based on full-time enrolment at the start of the previous school year. A PAC that plans in the spring can book a Halloween show, a holiday show in December or a science week in the new year with the grant it receives in the fall.
Halloween and holiday shows happen in a short window. Write to us as early as possible to hold your date, especially if several schools in your district want the same week.

Can a PAC Gaming Grant pay for a science show?
The 2026 PAC & DPAC guidelines list presentations or performances, including science, among the eligible uses. A science show for all students fits that description. Confirm with your PAC treasurer before booking.
Can it pay for a classroom workshop?
Not with Gaming Grant funds: they cannot be used for curriculum-based activities. The PAC can use the money it raises itself, if its rules allow, or the school can apply to Canadian Parents for French.
How much can our PAC receive?
$20 per student, based on full-time enrolment at the start of the previous school year, with a $2,000 base for schools under 100 students.
Who receives the invoice?
Tell us who is paying when you book: the school, the PAC or both. When several sources share the cost, Profaqua can issue separate invoices, as agreed.
