At a glance
Entomology is a three-visit project of 60 minutes each for grades 1 to 3 that opens up the fascinating world of insects, those creepy-crawlies that can sometimes be scary.
After a workshop on insects, students go outside to catch live specimens with the nets and jars supplied by Profaqua, then build an insect display box they take home, using a shoebox brought for the occasion.
Bugs, creepy-crawlies, whatever you call them, they can sometimes be scary! But take a closer look and a fascinating world opens up.
Let us give your students the insect bug through 3 workshops, including a hunt for live specimens and building an insect display box they take home!
Welcome side effect: future entomologists…
How it runs:
Visit 1: Insects (60 minutes):
Ask the children to bring an empty shoebox for the next step.
Visit 2: Bug hunt (60 minutes):
We head outdoors on an adventure to catch live specimens! We supply the nets and capture jars.
Visit 3: Building an insect display box (60 minutes):
Students turn a cardboard shoebox into their own insect display box for the critters caught and frozen in the previous step.
NOTE:
- If it rains, steps 2 and 3 are switched.
- The bug hunt can take place from May to September.
