Great Inventions is a 60-minute workshop for grades 2 to 6. Students step into the shoes of Einstein, Galileo, Newton, Edison and Franklin and repeat experiments like theirs on light, gravity, density, electrical circuits and static electricity.
Where does the word “sandwich” come from? Who invented antibiotics?
In this workshop, students step into the shoes of 5 great inventors (Einstein, Galileo, Newton, Edison and Franklin) and carry out experiments like theirs on light, gravity, density, electrical circuits and static electricity.
Who knows, one of them may be the next great inventor of the century!
Learning goals (elementary)
- Learn some history of science (Einstein, Galileo, Newton, Edison, Franklin).
- Understand what light is made of and how a light ray behaves.
- Tell mass from weight by sorting solids by density (same mass, different volume).
- Identify how friction and gravity affect a car race down a ramp.
- Build a simple circuit with a wire, a power source, a bulb and a switch.
- Describe the effect of electrostatic attraction.
