At a glance
LEGO® WeDo 2.0 Robotics shows that robotics is within reach of the youngest learners, from kindergarten to grade 6. Students first build their model with LEGO® bricks, then program it on a tablet with a Smarthub, an electric motor and sensors.
Among the models built over the visits: the glowing snail, the spinning fan, the moving satellite, Milo the science rover and the spy robot. The project runs over at least two workshops in school, or 6 to 10 weeks after school.
Would you like to introduce your students to robotics and coding?
This is the project for you.
Did you know that robotics is within everyone’s reach, even the youngest learners?
That is exactly what this turnkey activity shows. Building and programming will capture the interest of elementary students.
LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 is used in two steps:
- Building with LEGO® bricks.
- Discovering the program on a tablet to bring several projects to life with a Smarthub, an electric motor and sensors.
Here are a few of the models your scientists will build during our visits:
- The glowing snail.
- The spinning fan.
- The moving satellite.
- Milo, the science rover.
- The spy robot.
Learning through projects lights us up! Once they start, you won’t be able to stop them!
How it runs:
- In school: from 2 workshops of 60 or 75 minutes.
- After school: 60-minute workshops over 6, 8 or 10 weeks.
Learning goals (elementary)
- Read a diagram to assemble the robots from LEGO® bricks.
- Identify the parts needed to assemble the robot.
- Build and describe a simple sequence of moving mechanical parts.
- Understand how to create a programming sequence in the WeDo® software.
- Recognize the simple machines used in the robots (lever, inclined plane, screw, pulley, winch, wheel).
