Magnetism is a 60-minute workshop for kindergarten to grade 4, organized as five experiments: the magnetic arm, the dart game, the magnetic maze, the stacking game and super constructions.
Students describe what magnets, poles and magnetic fields are, recognize attraction and repulsion and sort magnetic and non-magnetic objects, from the classroom magnet to planet Earth.
From the magnet on the classroom whiteboard to planet Earth itself, discover the fascinating world of magnetism with us.
Magnetic or not? Attracted or repelled?
Find out with our 5 creative, fun experiments: the magnetic arm, the dart game, the magnetic maze, the stacking game and super constructions!
Learning goals (elementary)
- Describe magnetism, magnets, magnetic fields and magnetic poles.
- Recognize the main effects of magnets (attraction, repulsion).
- Identify magnetic and non-magnetic objects.
- Recognize the main magnetic metals (cobalt, nickel, iron).
- Use simple scientific equipment (compass).
